The Workout

Bump at the Barre® helps keep mom and baby healthy.

Moms who work out during pregnancy are more likely to have a healthier pregnancy with less complications, have healthier babies and recover faster after the birth. Bump at the Barre® was created to help moms achieve all of these things in one easy-to-follow but still challenging workout.

Moms can rest easy knowing that Bump at the Barre® classes are designed specifically with her in mind. Each class is tailored to the pregnant woman’s needs including modifications to help her be successful in class, postures to help combat fatigue and discomfort and options as she progresses further in her pregnancy.

Every class starts with a low-impact cardio warm-up to warm the muscles safely and gradually increase the heart rate. Cardio is encouraged for women who are experiencing an uncomplicated pregnancy and Bump at the Barre® provides exactly the right amount of low-impact cardio to challenge moms without pushing them to the point where they can’t pass the “talk test”.

We all know that babies come with A LOT of stuff and the upper body segment uses light weights to help strengthen and tone those baby-stuff- carrying muscles. Moms don’t have to feel like they need to shy away from weighted movement. Using light weights and compound exercises, the prenatal participant will feel great!

Of course the barre segment is the most popular part of the class. This is where the real work happens toning the legs and the glutes. These big muscle movements also keep the heart pumping (at a safe level!) and can counteract some pregnancy-related changes like weak glutes and hamstrings. Mom-to-be can feel the burn but still know that baby is safe!

The mat section concludes the class. Often times the glutes will be revisited in this segment to offer the prenatal participant a bit of a break from standing and provide more support in the postures.

The core is also worked in the mat section. Pregnancy-safe core exercises are one of the hallmarks of a Bump at the Barre® class. Often times props are used to help mom avoid contraindicated positions or to provide extra comfort.

Finally the class ends with a nice, relaxing stretch focused on breathing and stretching the muscles. This is some well-deserved introspective time for mom before baby gets here!

Bump at the Barre® is safe, challenging, effective and fun for all prenatal women. This program will carry moms from first trimester until after the birth and set a foundation for a healthy lifestyle for years to come.
